What is EES and why is it needed

EES, the Entry/Exit System, is an EU border system designed to register the entry and exit of non-EU travellers crossing Schengen external borders.

What EES records

  • passport data;
  • date and place of entry and exit;
  • biometric data where required;
  • information used to calculate the permitted stay.

Why it matters for passengers

The system helps border authorities check how many days a traveller has spent in the Schengen area and detect overstays. Border checks may take longer during the launch period.

How to prepare

Check your passport validity, keep travel documents ready and follow border officers’ instructions during the trip.
